Major Stops in the Trekking Route

  1. Pokhara(850 meters)

The adventure begins in Pokhara, a picturesque lakeside town nestled in the arms of towering mountains. This is the gateway to many trekking trails in the Annapurna area. Trekkers often stay overnight here, preparing themselves for the trek ahead while basking in the serene loveliness of Phewa Lake and its towering peaks, among them the famous Machhapuchhre, popularly known as Fishtail Mountain.

  1. Nayapul(1,070 meters.)

A 2-hour drive from Pokhara brings you to Nayapul, the starting point of the trek. The trail begins with a gentle descent to Birethanti, where trekkers register at the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) checkpoint. From here, the trail gradually ascends along the Modi River.

  1. Ghandruk(1,940 meters)

Ghandruk, a picturesque Gurung village, is renowned for its lovely stone houses and stunning views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre. Being one of the largest villages in the area, it provides a fascinating glimpse into the rich tapestry of Gurung life. Trekkers often stop here on their first day, enjoying the friendly hospitality of the people while visiting the charming museums and peaceful monasteries.

  1. Chhomrong (2,170 meters)

Chhomrong is an important waystation along the ABC trek, situated at the foot of a precipitous valley. It provides stunning views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre. The village is sprinkled with well-built tea houses, acting as a focal point for trekkers making their way to the Annapurna Sanctuary. To proceed along their route, one has to go down the precipitous staircase from this point, crossing the Chhomrong Khola before ascending once more.

  1. Sinuwa (2,340 meters)

Sinuwa is a peaceful village, surrounded by dense rhododendron woods. The trail making its way from Chhomrong to Sinuwa has steep climbs, but it freely rewards trekkers with spectacular views of the valleys that lie ahead.

  1. Bamboo(2,310 meters)

Bamboo, so-called for the thick forest that surrounds it, is a charming village offering basic accommodation to tired trekkers. The trek from Sinuwa to Bamboo is a downward route through green surroundings, flanked by plunging waterfalls and glistening streams.

  1. Deurali (3,200 meters.)

Situated high above the tree line, Deurali provides trekking enthusiasts with stunning views of snow-covered mountains and barren landscapes. The trek from Bamboo to Deurali is a gradual climb, winding through dense alpine forests and large meadows.

  1. The Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC) (3,700 meters)

MBC rests elegantly at the base of Machhapuchhre, or Fishtail Mountain, a place revered by the locals and considered taboo for trekkers. The place offers stunning panoramic views of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and the other towering peaks of the Annapurna range. In addition, it is an important acclimatization point before the climb to ABC.

  1. Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) ( 4,130 meters)

The crown jewel of the trek, ABC, lies serenely in an amphitheater created by giants such as Annapurna I (8,091m), Annapurna South (7,219m), Hiunchuli (6,441m), and Machhapuchhre (6,993m). Sunrises at the base camp are just spectacular, casting a rainbow of colors that dance above these giant peaks. Trekkers usually linger in this stunning place, basking in the beauty of one of Nepal's most photographed scenes. 10. Jhinu Danda (Return Stop) Elevation: 1,780 meters As you head back, stop by Jhinu Danda, which is famous for its natural hot springs located close to the Modi River. Soaking in these relaxing waters provides the ideal chance to relax after trekking for a few days.

When is the Ideal Time to Trek to Annapurna Base Camp?

It is ideal to visit and experience this Trek during Spring and Autumn. Spring (March to May) has crystal-clear views, rhododendrons in full bloom, and mild temperatures. And Autumn (September to November) is full of stable weather, perfect visibility, and ideal trekking conditions.

Which Season to Avoid

Winter (December to February) is also possible for you to trek but expect snow-covered trails and colder temperatures that could hinder your progress and maximize the challenge.
